DOZENS of students from the Government MAO College on Monday protested against the Punjab government and the college administration for dropping their names from the lists of eligible candidates for the award of laptops.
The students said their names were earlier approved for laptops under; however, they were informed on Monday that they would not be receiving laptops following instructions from the government. The students chanted slogans against the Punjab government and the college administration for, what they termed, “playing with their sentiments.” However, when contacted, an official of the college claimed the names of all such students had once again been included following the principal’s meeting with the officials of the Higher Education Department. He said the names were dropped as right after submission of forms for award of laptops, the result of the students turned out to be poor.
The official said, however, since the award of laptops was based on result of final exams, the department agreed to include names of the students once again. Meanwhile a number of students from the same college are still being dragged from pillar to post to get themselves registered for the laptops.
