KARACHI: Steering Committee of the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical (JPMC) in its emergency meeting on Wednesday announced complete support to the nurses and paramedical staff seeking raise in their salaries and allowances. The meeting attended by senior professors, doctors and other employees of JPMC, National Institute of Child Health and National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases also regretted high-handedness resorted against nurses asking for early acceptance of their demands. “We register our protest against manhandling of colleagues, the nurses and paramedics, seeking their due rights,” said the committee members in a joint resolution. The committee members said that since devolution of the three tertiary care institutes problems of the concerned employees appeared to be ignored. “It is a genuine demand of the employees, including nurses and paramedics that they be granted health allowance and increment of one basic pay as announced by the prime minister for federal government health employees,” said the participants of the executive committee meeting. KARACHI: Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Sharmila Farooqui on Wednesday helped in the release of nurses and paramedical staff who were arrested while protesting for their rights. Talking to media on the occasion, Farooqui said that she has also promised the nurses and paramedical staff for requesting Sindh chief minister for resolving their genuine problems. She said that every citizen has the right to raise the voice for the rights, but the police action was taken due to presence of Section 144 in the city in red zone. Farooqui also listened to the demands of nurses and paramedics regarding allowances and suggested them to submit these demand in a draft for onward submission to the chief minister. The adviser said she would also talk to health minister for the redressal of their problems. app
Former JI Ameer slams police torture on nurses
Karachi: Former Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed has strongly condemned the use of water cannons and baton charge on nurses and lady paramedical staff protesting for their demands and called it an anti-democratic and contrary to cultural values. He demanded of the Sindh Governor and Chief Minister to tender apology on brutal use of force against lady paramedics and resolve their issues. He stated this during a visit to Karachi Press Club (KPC) here on Wednesday. He said citizens had fundamental and democratic right to protest for pursuance of their demands.
