PESHAWAR, May 4: The Islamia College University, Peshawar, Staff Association (ICUPSA) on Friday split into two groups in its general body meeting.

The meeting was convened by members to discuss issues, which cropped up after the university’s Senate met of late.

According to a news release issued by ICUPSA secretary general Jehanzeb Shaoor, the meeting was requisitioned by members and under the association’s Constitution, all signatories to the requisition were bound to show up.

However, a participant asked ICUPSA president Faisal Shahzad to ensure presence of all signatories but he failed forcing most of those in attendance to stage a walkout in protest.

Despite the walkout, the president illegally continued with the meeting where six of the 10 executive members were also not in presence.

Mr Shaoor thanked provincial governor Masood Kausar, who is also the chancellor of the public sector universities in the province, for saving the university from anarchy and upheld the statutory requirement under the University Act.
