Karachi: This is in reference to the news “HEC refuses to recognise PhD degree of Iqra University (IU) registrar” published on Saturday.

Syed Akif Hasan said he would like to put the record straight. The news item says his degree is a PhD but his degree is a DBA, he said.

The report says he is the Dean of Management Sciences. However, he is the registrar. It says the HEC has not recognised his degree, which is incorrect. The HEC has recognised the degree since it is from an institution recognised by it. The HEC has equated his DBA degree to an MPhil. However, to another student of his university the HEC has equated the same degree to a Pakistani doctorate. He said they have asked the HEC to reconsider their decision. But the degree is recognised and so is the institution. Hence he holds a recognised degree, he added. The news
