Degrees conferred on 510 SZABIST students
Karachi, Feb 28: About 510 students were conferred on degrees at the Convocation 2011 of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) here on Saturday.
Chancellor of the Institute Dr Azra Fazal declared the convocation open.
In all, ten students who excelled in various disciplines were awarded gold medals.
The corporate gold medals were also conferred on this very occasion.
In her speech, the chancellor said that SZABIST upholds the legacy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who was its founding chancellor.
She further stated that SZABIST’s mission is to work for the betterment of the country and its people and to contribute towards earning a prominent place for Pakistan in the comity of nations.
Dr Azra Fazal pointed out that SZABIST has been established with the objective to produce high qualified scientific and technical personnel to help meet the country’s requirements in this regard.
She further stated that SZABIST has become an institute of excellence.
Dr Azra Fazal said that science and technology holds the key to economic growth and social development.
She was of the view that it is necessary to prepare a population that is not only knowledgeable and skilled but it is also aware of its responsibilities and is also willing to contribute to the growth of the nation as well as well being of the society.
Dr Azra Fazal informed that SZABIST is devoting a substantial percentage of its funds towards the research and development.
Dr S.M Qureshi, Chairman of the Charter Inspection and Evaluation Committee, and a former vice-chancellor of Mehran University, delivered the keynote address.
