Civil society condemns IJT hooliganism at PU
Lahore: Different civil society and human rights organisations have condemned the hooliganism and brutality of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) in the Punjab University.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and Woman Action Forum (WAF) have condemned the torture on students and teachers of the Philosophy Department. Sources informed that office-bearers of the IJT and Jamaat-e-Islami have approached the teachers of the Philosophy Department to resolve the matter.
These office bearers are also pressurising the students and teachers to resolve the matter and withdraw the FIR against them. The IJT activists had tortured the students last week for sitting with the female students after which a large number of students and teachers staged a demonstration on the PU premises. After the demonstration, the IJT activists reportedly attacked the teachers and students living in Hostel No 7 and shot and injured several of them.
IJT Media Coordinator Nauman, on Tuesday, claimed that all the matters had been resolved after a meeting with the teachers of the Philosophy Department. He claimed that it was a misunderstanding between IJT and the students of the Philosophy Department.
On the other hand, in an open letter to PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, WAF had condemned the hooliganism and brutality of the IJT activists on female students and teachers.
A WAF handout states that these actions of the IJT activists have once again revealed the hypocrisy and total lack of ethics of the students body. Daily times
