Peshawar: 13 Sep: Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Azmat Hayat Khan while underlining the role of media in the present era of globalization has urged upon the media-men to purposely use their potentialities for the development of the country in general and for the uplift of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in specific.
He added that since the journalists are leading today’s society so they should come forward and play their due role in managing the ongoing conflict in the tribal areas.
This he stated while inaugurating the three-day Grand Jirga organized by the Fata livelihood Programme (FLP) in collaboration with the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Peshawar at Bara galli campus, here Saturday.
The Grand Jirga was organized with the aim to provide a forum to all
the participating CBOs and FLP partners working in FATA for sharing
experiences and carrying out consultations on the project outlook.

The Vice Chancellor went on to say that Jirga has got a very
significance status in our society hoping that this current gathering
will come up with recommendations which will lead the stakeholders to solutions of various problems, the people in tribal areas are
confronted with. He said that tribal areas are full of uranium,
marbles, minerals and other natural resources which can change fortune of the area, if utilized properly saying that media can play
imperative role in this regard.
About the prevailing situation in the FATA he said that courageous
tribal people gave matchless sacrifices to make the country a safer
place and it is hoped that they will come out from the current crises
successfully. However he said orchestrated and sincere efforts are
needed wherein everybody ought to play his role and it should be lead by the media by its constructive contribution and input.

Ms Antje Grawe from German Embassy, Thomas Schaef, Country Director GIZ and Yousaf Raheem Additional DG Projects at Fata Secretariat also spoke on the occasion while large number of tribal elders, journalists, people from FATA Secretariat and faculty member of the University of Peshawar attended the inaugural ceremony.
