LAHORE: (Monday, July 19, 2010): Punjab University Institute of Communication studies (ICS)’ Board of Studies has decided to introduce two new subjects of “Business Journalism” and “Sports Journalism” to meet the growing needs of reporters in these two vital disciplines at the Institute.

The Board of Studies meeting, held here today under the chairmanship of Director ICS Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz, was also attended by the Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof Dr Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh, Anwar Waqar Azeem, Dr Abdul Siraj and Dr Noshina Saleem, after through discussion decided the introduction of said subjects from session 2010-2012. The Board of Studies also recommended the University Syndicate to change the existing nomenclature of Mass Communication degree from MA in Communication Studies to MSc in Communication Studies. Besides, with a view to familiarizing journalism students with our time-tested and trust-worthy friend China ‘ language, the Board of Studies also decided to introduce Chinese language as an elective subject at the ICS.

LAHORE : (Monday, July 19, 2010): A three member team of HEC accreditation council in agriculture education visited Punjab University Institute of plant pathology where Incharge IPP Dr Ghazala Nasim briefed them about the activities and infrastructure of the Institute. The team experts comprised of Prof Dr Iftikhar Ahmed, DG NARC and Prof Dr Irfan-ul-Haq of PMS Agricultural University, Islamabad while Dr Naseer Alam was there as a representative of NEAC. The team also interacted with the faculty members and students of the Institute.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has denied India land transit route to Afghanistan while Trade Minister Amin Fahim has said that Afghanistan has been allowed to use land route to India for trade.

At the 7th round of talks for Afghanistan Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA), the head of Pakistan delegation Himayatullah said the agreement has been reached.

He said under the agreement India cannot be allowed to use land route to Afghanistan and that India could only use air and see routes.

Four people have been killed and 16 injured as a blast occurred at an Imam Bargah in Sargodha on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred in Imam Bargah Haideriya in Block 19, where Maghrib prayers were underway.

According to eyewitnesses, a suicide bomber tried to enter the Imam Bargah and blew himself up after the guard tried to stop him.

Police have cordoned off the area.

LAHORE, July 16: The Punjab University has received another 40 degrees of parliamentarians from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for verification.

The university is already in the process of verifying 97 degrees, while 217 degrees have been returned after verification.

Karachi: The second semester of the current academic year at the University of Karachi (KU) started on Friday. An official of the university said that the classes resumed and the attendance at the campus was normal. The semester break at the institution lasted more than a month’s time.

Meanwhile, the University of Karachi and Unikarians International are jointly organising a ceremony to show gratitude and acknowledge the efforts of publishing the complete volumes of Urdu Dictionary by the Urdu Dictionary Board on July 17 at 10:00am at the Arts Auditorium, Karachi University.

LAHORE : (Thursday, July 15, 2010): Punjab University Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) has achieved another milestone by publishing its research journal titled “Journal of Media Studies (JMS)”, ISSN 1812-7592. The journal shows the firm determination and tireless efforts of Director ICS and the Chief Editor Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz and his team under the visionary leadership of Dean Faculty of Social & Behavioural Sciences and the Executive Chief Editor Prof Dr Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh, for producing such a scholarly publication. The current issue contributed by local, national and international scholars, contains research articles on portrayal, responsibilities, role and the challenges faced by the media & journalists today. Dr Bushra H Rahman is the Editor of JMS while the Editorial Board comprises of more than 50 percent foreign scholars from academically advanced countries including USA , Canada , Norway , Poland and Malaysia . The JMS is an interdisciplinary, bi-annual and blind reviewed publication following HEC criteria. This journal will open up new avenues for the scholars and other media practitioners to share their research work in the field of media & communication studies according to international standards.
