BIEK reschedules postponed paper Karachi

The paper of commercial geography part II of the Commerce (Regular) group at the Government National College, which was postponed earlier, has been rescheduled for May 24. According to a notification by the Board of Intermediate Education, the exam would be held at the Government Degree Boys College, adjacent to Shaikh Zaid Centre, University Road from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.

First phase of intermediate examination will start today in which 161,556 candidates are appearing.
The first phase of the Inter Board exams starts today in Karachi with Islamic Studies paper while there will be Social Studies paper for the non-Muslim students. 152 examination centres have been set up for the first phase of exams.

According to the chairman Inter Board, the examinations will be held in two shifts. First shift will be from 9:30am to 12:30pm while the second shift will be from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.

The second phase of Inter Board will start from June 5 in which arts (regular) and commerce (private) candidates will take part.

230,000 to appear in inter examinations beginning today

Karachi: Some 230, 000 students would appear in intermediate examinations starting Monday (today) in Karachi for which all the arrangements have been finalised, Chairman Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi (BIEK) Anwar Ahmedzai said.

In a statement on Sunday, he said 87 examination centres have been setup in morning shift and 65 centres in evening shift.

Ahmedzai said as per decision taken in a meeting with Commissioner Karachi, two officers and ten policemen would be deployed at each examination centre to block external interference. The Section 144 would be imposed to ban opening of photo-stat shops in the 100-yard area in the surroundings of exam centres.

All the deputy commissioners, SDM and SSPs would be visiting examination centres to take stock of the situation.

“Any person, impersonating as the student at the examination centre, would be arrested and FIR would be registered against him while the actual candidate would be barred from appearing in exam for three years,” BIEK chairman said.

Ahmedzai said the photographs of candidates affixed on enrollment card have been scanned, therefore, the impersonator would easily be detected.

BIEK chairman further stated that a guard would accompany each of the coordinating officers of Board for dispatching the papers. Moreover, this time too five versions of objective papers are being published and their answers could be seen on BIEK website daily after two hours of expiry of examination time. ppi

Some 230,000 students would be appearing in Intermediate exams starting from Monday (today) in Karachi for which all arrangements have been finalized, according to Chairman Board of Intermediate Education Anwar Ahmedzai.

RAWALPINDI, May 5: With the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) annual examinations starting from Tuesday (May 8), the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi has constituted a special squad to monitor the exams.

The board also declared Sunday as a working day for its officials till the end of the exams for facilitating the students.

As many as 62,403 students of the second year will appear in the exams for which 189 centres have been set up across the division while students of first-year, numbering 50,446, will attempt their papers after conclusion of the Part-II exams on May 28.

Learning a lesson from last year’s students’ protest against non-receipt of roll number slips and other issues, the board management has taken some more steps to hold the exams in a smooth way. During the protest last year, the students set the board building on fire.

The special squad constituted this year consists of teachers of good repute and retired academicians for supervising the exams.

According to officials, entry of irrelevant people to the examination halls has been banned for discouraging cheating while generators would be on a standby to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the papers.

“We have completed all the essential arrangements to facilitate the students.

We are hopeful that the candidates will be satisfied with the steps this time,” said Arsalan Cheema, the spokesman for BISE, while talking to Dawn on Saturday.

KARACHI, May 1: The University of Karachi has announced that candidates of MA (previous and final) examinations 2012 can submit their forms and fee at their respective colleges from May 2 to 17.

All the candidates enrolled in 2005 or earlier can appear in the examination as a last chance by paying Rs5,000 extra charges in addition to the normal exam fee, according to a KU press release.

During the ongoing matriculation exams, two unusual but similar cases of misdemeanour were reported, where an invigilator slapped two students for asking for a second answer sheet.

On April 25, during the chemistry paper of the Board of Secondary Education, a student from Al-Ilm Academy, who wishes to remain anonymous, was told not to waste paper by asking for more sheets.

“I was given one when I insisted, but only after I was slapped hard across the face.”

Another student of the same school shared a similar experience. “After being denied for the first time, I was handed over the second copy with a slap.”

Both the students said that they were distressed after the episode. They missed out parts of their paper and were not able to study for the next exam. They also told The News that the same invigilator was seen helping out another student with the multiple choice questions.

Meanwhile, the authorities at the Whitehouse Grammar School denied the charges. “A second copy is every child’s right, and we are not short of stationery,” said Saadia Ambreen, the institute’s vice principal.

“I received a complaint from the parents this morning. I sat with the two boys, listened to their story, and believe me, nothing of this sort has happened.”

Many cases of the use of unfair means have been detected during raids on the school by officials of the Board of Secondary Education Karachi.

Math paper postponed in Lyari Karachi

The mathematics paper of ninth-class students for Secondary School Certificate-Part-I (General Group), which was scheduled for today, has been postponed in Lyari due to the ongoing violence.

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi announced on Sunday that the math paper had been postponed at six examination centres in the violence-hit area. A new date for the exam would be announced later, said the announcement.On April 10, the BSEK had postponed the paper of English-II due to the strike call of transporters in the city. The paper of Class-X (Science Group) will be held on May 8.

The Pakistan National Board (PNB) of Universities has announced that all universities of Pakistan will establish National Boards of Specialties for running uniform MD/MS postgraduate programs.

All programs will have uniform curriculum, structured training, examination and quality assurance, this was unanimously observed during the 5th meeting of Executive Board of PNB held under the chairmanship of its President Prof Azam Hussain Yousifani, the Vice Chancellor of Peoples Medical University, Nawabshah, here at King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Lahore, on Saturday.

The PNB also decided that all universities would offer uniform application forms for MD/MS programs and accept forms online. “All universities will hold uniform admission examination for all MD/MS postgraduate programs, twice a year at one time throughout Pakistan,” it was further decided.

PESHAWAR: The officials of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar on Wednesday said preparations for the Intermediate Part-I and II examination commencing from April 25 had been completed.

Addressing a press conference, BISE Chairman Dr Muhammad Shafi Afridi, and Secretary Musawir Jan, along with the deputy secretary public relations, Mehdi Shah said the examination would be conducted at 244 centres including 86 for girls simultaneously.

They added 12 centres for boys and three for girls had been established in the adjacent tribal areas to conduct the annual HSSC examination. They said the teachers having good reputation were deputed as examiners.

The officials said the candidates could also check and verify their roll numbers online at their homes while any candidate left out could apply for the examination by submitting forms on Thursday.

Regarding checking and evaluation of the students’ papers, the BISE chairman said a teacher at the most could check only 1,200 papers having fictitious numbers on the answer books to avoid favouritism or nepotism.

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) on Sunday announced that one of the examination centres for the ongoing annual exams of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) has been changed on the charges of corruption.

Controller of Examinations Rafia Mallah told The News that the board had received a complaint from a student who was giving her paper at the Global Educational Secondary School, near Bismillah Chowk, Orangi Town No 10, that the centre superintendent was demanding an amount of money from each student and in return allowing them to use unfair means while solving the paper.

The management of the school was found guilty of providing materials for cheating to the students and the invigilators were too young for their jobs, she said. “The visiting team of the BSEK observed a lot of irregularities during their visit and decided to change the examination centre with immediate effect,” she said.

Now the students of the school would appear at the Government Girls Secondary School, New Happy Garden, located in Bismillah Colony, Orangi Town 10, she added. According to her, the BSEK has sent official complaint against the school and its management to the departments concerned.

BOARD of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Lahore, has disqualified six paper setters for preparing wrong instructions for marking of answer sheets for the Secondary School (Annual) Examination, 2012.

A spokesman for the BISE said part of one question in the paper of Islamiat was wrongly prepared by five paper setters and it was corrected later. He said the marking of this paper was yet to be made and special instructions had been issued to sub-examiners for marking accordingly to facilitate the candidates. He said BISE Chairman Muhammad Nasrullah Virk disqualified the paper setters for all kind of Board’s assignments on account of inefficiency. The paper setters are Arshad Ali, senior subject specialist, Government Higher Secondary School, Wah Radha Ram, Ch Ghulam Rasul, headmaster, Government Dar-ul-Furqan High School, Begumpura, M Shabbir Toor, senior headmaster (R), Asghar Ali, senior subject specialist, Government Higher Secondary School, 40/3-R, Okara and Riaz Ahmad, senior headmaster, Govt High School, Kot Ranjeet, Sheikhupura.

Javed Iqbal, senior headmaster, Government High School, Lakhoder, paper setter in the subject of Mathematics, had also been disqualified.
