The education department’s resource support unit earlier informed the minister that around 19,000 posts were vacant in the public sector schools across the province. Subsequently, the minister instructed the officials concerned to expedite the process of recruitment of teachers by placing advertisements in dailies.

At the outset, the minister said that colleges would have a sports quota in admissions. The decision had been taken to promote sports activities in educational institutions, he added.

Lahore – The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will be accepting applications until February 27 for recruitment on 68 posts of BS-11 to 14. These jobs include 12 vacancies for office assistants, 20 posts for stenographers, eight posts for civil sub-engineers, two posts each for electrical and mechanical sub-engineers and 24 posts for data entry operators. The recruitment for these vacancies will be made on the basis of an offline test, which will be conducted by the National Testing Service on March 31.
The application form is available on the NTS website: www.nts.org.pk. The LDA has also invited applications to fill 19 posts of grade one to seven by February 20. These jobs include three posts for junior clerks, two dispensers, one lineman, three naib qasids, three sanitary workers, two security guards, three ayas and two watchmen.

Pakistan Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association (PPMA) has announced to provide jobs to two persons each from families of the Lahore tainted drug victims. Over 120 patients admitted to Punjab Institute of Cardiology have so far died after being administered spurious drugs. PPMA Chairman Muhammad Asad said in a statement that in order to share the miseries and sorrows with the bereaved families, the association had decided to provide jobs to two persons from each victim family and these jobs would be provided as per their qualifications. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association (PPMA) on Monday announced to provide jobs to two persons from each bereaved family that has become a victim of contaminated medicine used in Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), Lahore.

PPMA Chairman Muhammad Asad informed Daily Times that in order to share the miseries and sorrows of the bereaved families, the Pakistan Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association has decided to provide jobs to two persons from each victim family and these jobs would be provided as per their qualifications.

PPMA Chairman further maintained that CVs can be forwarded to head office of PPMA in Islamabad.

The unremitting increase in the death toll resulting from the intake of contaminated drugs provided by PIC has brought bad press for the Punjab government and Health Department.

Officially 107 and unofficially more than 133 people died in the last two weeks by the use of adulterated drugs provided by PIC but the Punjab government still denies accepting the responsibility of the deaths.

Another important aspect is that the medicine that proved fatal for patients, named “Isotab”, was cleared by all laboratories in Pakistan.

However, when this medicine, which was made by Efroze Chemical Industries, was examined in a state-of-the-art laboratory in London, it was revealed that it is deadly for health.

Now the question arises, whether there is no laboratory in Pakistan that can check the purity of a medicine and if not then how did the officials of these laboratories issued the clearance report of Isotab? This medicine affects the bone marrow and ends the production of white blood cells that reduces and eventually ends immunity of a body and causes the death of patients. Six other countries have also banned the use of Isotab which was supplied to them by Pakistan. Supreme Court has taken suo motu action against the drug deaths.

PESHAWAR: A meeting at the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) on Saturday decided to increase the number of house officers from 224 to 297 to provide maximum job opportunities to fresh candidates. The meeting, presided over by KTH Chief Executive Dr Umar Ayub, was also attended by heads of all the three teachings hospital of the province. The participants informed that fresh interview had been called and previous ones were cancelled. They also fixed January 30 as date of interviews for Khyber Medical College graduates and January 31 for SMC, GMC and AMC graduates.

LAHORE University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Saturday organised the Mega Career Fair 2012 on the university campus which was well attended by a large number of varsity graduates.

A number of reputed national and multinational organisations set up stalls at the Mega Career Fair which was organized by the LUMS Career Service Centre.

The representatives of the participating companies informed the students about career opportunities in their respective organisations while some companies also conducted the interviews of the prospective employees and received resumes of the graduates for regular jobs and internship opportunities.

LUMS career fair receives incredible response
LAHORE: The Annual Mega Career Fair 2012 held at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Saturday received incredible response from the university graduates and final year students, who turned up in large numbers to explore the employment opportunities available at reputed international and national organisations and to gather information about the available foreign scholarships. The career fair was organised by LUMS Career Service Centre.
As many as 41 noted organisations, including Allied Bank, KASB Bank, Warid Telecom, Indus Motors Pakistan, Nestle, Descon Chemicals, PSO, Teach Pakistan and several others set up their stalls at the fair. Each company’s representative was present at its stall to guide students about available positions in their organisations.
The event served as a bridge between industry leaders and job seekers, giving the students and employers a chance to interact with each other in a friendly environment, outside the office. The companies’ executives also conducted written tests and on-campus interviews to shortlist candidates.
The stalls set up by different banks and telecom companies remained the centre of attention at the fair, where students were briefed about the procedures, requirements and eligibility criteria.
Talking to the media, students said that every university should take it as its responsibility to help and guide its students with regards to their professional careers. However, they added that it was unfortunate that very few colleges and universities across the country held career fairs for outgoing students.
A management studies student, Alisha, said that the government should hold career fairs at the national level where foreign companies could be invited to employ talented youth of the country. She added that the companies should also offer part-time jobs for students.
Talking about the career fair, LUMS Career Service Officer Ali Mumtaz said the fair was organised annually to build a strong foundation for professional career of students so that they could excel in the job market.
He added, “LUMS has expanded over the last few years; be it the number of students, faculty or the diversification offered in each academic programme and this growth and refinement in quality of education has been able to attract more and more employers, including international employers, to recruit students from LUMS.” daily times

Annual ‘Career Fair’ held at LUMS
LAHORE – A large number of students from the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Saturday participated in the annual Career Fair.
Around 41 local and multinational companies staged their stalls to guide the students about the future opportunities. Students also submitted their resumes for their careers, while companies conducted their interviews.
The participants appreciated the event that, according to them, was a good practice of the LUMS administration to provide them job opportunities.
This career fair was organised by the Service Office of the varsity, which staged the event every year to guide the students about the trends and chances in job market. The companies, including banking sector and industry’s officials, also gave various presentations about the opportunities and positions to the job seekers and briefed them about the space available in specific areas.
A group discussion for the job seekers was also held on this occasion, where students inquired about different available slots. Former and current students also obtained information from the stalls and said the fair would enable more and more people to get appropriate jobs.

22 candidates selection for interview of vice chancellors Punjab University, Lahore,

LAHORE, Jan 2: The Punjab government’s Search Committee for the selection of vice chancellors in public sector universities on Monday interviewed 22 candidates for the selection of vice chancellors of the Punjab University, Lahore, and the Women University, Multan.

The PU VC slot has fallen vacant on Monday as VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran completed his four-year tenure. At least 45 candidates had applied for the post out of whom 29 were shortlisted.

It is learnt that the Search Committee interviewed 20 candidates, including incumbent VC Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Karakoram International University VC Prof Dr Najma Najam, National Textile University Rector Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad, former PU registrar Prof Dr Naeem Khan, University of Sargodha VC Prof Dr Akram Chaudhry, former Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education chairman Prof Dr Akram Kashmiri, PU Institute of Geology director Prof Dr Nasir Ahmad and UVAS faculty of bio-sciences dean Prof Dr Ijaz Ahmad.

The committee headed by LUMS Pro-Chancellor Syed Babar Ali will interview remaining nine candidates on Tuesday (today) and finalise a panel of three candidates soon after interviews.

Later, the Higher Education Department secretary will move a summary carrying a panel of three candidates to the chief minister through the chief secretary for the final selection of the PU vice-chancellor.

Prior to PU VC slot candidates, the Search Committee interviewed two women candidates, including PU School of Biological Sciences’ Prof Dr Shahida Hasnain for VCship of yet to be established Women University, Multan. The Women University VC will also act as varsity’s project director for the establishment of the university.

It is learnt that the Punjab Higher Education Department is also planning to re-advertise the post to attract more candidates and selection of a best candidate for the slot.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Higher Education Department did not notify the Punjab University vice-chancellor for the interim period.

Sources in the HED told Dawn that the Punjab Governor/Chancellor had signed a summary that Prof Kamran should be allowed to continue as vice-chancellor till further orders.

The HED had moved a summary to the chief minister in this regard and was to be processed through the approval of the Governor/Chancellor.

In the current situation, the PU office will remain vacant on Tuesday (today) until a formal notification be issued by the HED for an interim period.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT IN UNIVERSITY OF SARGODHA/ UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, UOS

Professor: Academic: Ph.D. from HEC recognized Institution in the relevant field. Experience: 15-Years teaching/research experience in HEC recognized University or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization. OR 10-Years post-Ph.D teaching/research experience in a recognized University or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization. Publications: 15 research publications (with at least 5 publications in last 5 years) in Journals recognized by the HEC.

Associate Professor: Academic: Ph.D in the relevant field from HEC recognized University/Institution. Experience: 10-Years teaching/research experience in HEC recognized University or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization. OR 5-Years post-Ph.D teaching/research experience in HEC recognized University or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization. Publications: 10 research publications (with at least 04 publications in last 5 years) in Journals recognized by the HEC.

Assistant Professor: Academic: Ph.D. in the relevant field from HEC recognized University/Institution. Experience: No experience required. OR Master’s degree (foreign) or M.Phil (Pakistan) or equivalent degree awarded after 18 years of Education as determined by the HEC in the relevant field from HEC recognized University/Institution. Experience: 4 years teaching/research experience in a recognized university or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization.

Lecturer: Academic: Master’s degree (First Class) or equivalent degree awarded after 16 years of education, in the relevant field (with no 3rd Division in the Academic Career) from HEC recognized University/Institution. However, the candidate holds a higher degree (M.Phil/Ph.D) or equivalent degree but with only one 3rd division in the entire academic career.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE POST OF FINE ARTS

Associate Professor: Minimum Qualification: Ph.D in the relevant field from HEC recognized University / Institution. Experience: 10-Years teaching / research experience in an HEC recognized University or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization. OR 5-Years post-Ph.D teaching / research experience in HEC recognized University or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization Minimum Number of Publications & Achievements: Outstanding and substantial level of professional art activity (Demonstrated by participation in 6 exhibations at national or international level with two or more than two new works in each exhibition or evidence of equal number of visual communication campaigns designed and published or equivalent work in any other discipline of Arts and Design as specified in the research criteria). —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-Minimum Qualification: Master’s Degree (Foreign) or M.Phil OR Equivalent degree awarded after 18-years of education in the relevant field from an HEC recognized University / Institution. Minimum Number of Publications & Achievements: Outstanding and substantial level of professional art activity (Demonstrated by participation in 6 exhibitions at national or international level with two or more than two new works in each exhibition or evidence of equal number of visual communication campaigns designed and published or equivalent work in any other discipline of Arts and Design as specified in the research criteria).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE POST OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

Professor: Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D degree in relevant field, recognized by HEC. Experience:12-years teaching / research experience in a recognized institution/college/university or 12-years professional experience in the relevant field in a national or international organization out of which 5-years must be teaching experience. OR 10-years post-Ph.D teaching / research experience in an HEC recognized University or a post-graduate Institution or professional experience in the relevant field in a National or International Organization. Minimum Number of Publications: 15 research publications (with at least 5 publications in HEC / PEC recognized Journals.

Associate Professor:
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D degree in relevant field, from institution recognized by HEC in consultation with PEC.
Experience: 07 years teaching / research experience in a recognized institution / college / University or 07-years professional experience in the relevant field
in a national or International organization out of which 2-years must be teaching experience.
Minimum Number of Publications: 10 research publications (with at least 4 publications in HEC / PEC recognized Journals.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR NON-TEACHING STAFF

Deputy Chief Librarian: (Age: Less than 50) Requirements: Master Degree in Library Science/Library and Information Science (1st Div) with 10 years service as Librarian in BS-17.

IT Manager: (Age: Less than 40) Qualification: MSc.(IT), BSCS (4-Year), BSIT(4-Year) or equivalent. Experience: 10 years experience in relevant field. Preferences: Project management, application design and development, data and system analysis, and IT operations. IT procurement, purchase planning, supplier research and selection, value analysis, (6) financing, supply contract administration, inventory control and stores, and disposals and other related functions, PMP training, Database and Video conferencing

Assistant Registrar / Assistant Controller of Examinations / Assistant Treasurer (Age: 21-30) Graduate of recognized University, preference shall be given to high academic attainments combined with office experience.

Computer Programmer: (Age: 21-30) Master in Computer Science or equivalent from recognized University.

Network Administrator: (Age: 21-30) BCS (at least C-Grade) Or equivalent with 03 years experience in Net working. Qualification CCNA will be preferred.
