LAHORE, Scores of art fans woke to ‘Late afternoon night’ – the one-day exhibition of landscapes by Muhammad Arshad – on Tuesday at the Ocean Art Gallery.

Mr Mahmood is a University of the Punjab graduate and it is his third solo exhibition. The exhibition will formally open at Ocean Art Gallery, Karachi, on Dec 22. A close look at the landscape shows the artist has deep passion for nature, especially forests.
Arshad told Dawn that he got inspired from the awesome beauty of Changa Manga forest.

“I try to depict how the forest transform in winter from green to bright autumnal ultimately turns brown,” he said.

The artist in his paintings has captured the stunning golden light in the late afternoon, the time when contrast of light and darkness becomes almost heart touching.

“Arshad makes you aware of the undisturbed beauty of this landscape of the plains of Punjab,” says former College of Art and Design principal Shahnawaz Zaidi.

“He makes you feel the breeze passing through the delicate bushes, whistling through the grass. He makes you smell the dried leaves of the autumn days and experience the beauty of the rustic sunset.”

The paintings on display had a lot to offer for a nature lover: the dense dry foliage, the tangled branches, leaves, flowers, birds, wild flowers in pink colour, the afternoon dim light and the sad mud passages of the forest lying in deep silence.

The exhibition was really a treat to watch.
