Japanese calendars’ exhibition ends today arranged by Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, at the Gandhara University PESHAWAR
PESHAWAR: A 3-day Japanese calendars’ exhibition arranged by the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association, Khyber Pakhtun-khwa, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan is ending at the Gandhara University today.
Nawabzada Fazal Karim, honorary consul general of Japan in Peshawar, had formally inaugurated the exhibition on Thursday, marking the 60th anniversary of Pakistan-Japan diplomatic relations.

The exhibition is an annual and popular cultural event. Around 128 calendars were put on display at the exhibition. A large number of university students thronged the venue on the first day of the exhibition and evinced keen interest in the unique pieces of Japanese art.
The calendars portrayed various aspects such as contemporary and traditional art, gardens, scenery, costumes, people, art, photography, automobiles, wild-life, Ikebana, living style and historical places related to Japan.
The calendars were prepared in unique ways to attract viewers through different subjects and mediums. The exhibition not only presents a picture of the socio-cultural development of Japan spreading over centuries, but also exhibits the aesthetic features of Japanese artists.
An interesting aspect of the exhibition was that most of the calendars on display were produced through an eco-friendly process and printed on paper manufactured from trees of managed forests, non-tree sources like sugarcane, and recycled paper, which is in line with Japan’s firm commitment to preserving the environment.
The use of non-conventional materials in the preparation of calendars would definitely increase the interest of visitors, who could witness the brand new printing technology crystallised in Japanese calendars, providing an opportunity to them to enjoy the diversity of Japan through calendars. All the calendars on display will be distributed among the visitors through a lottery at the end of the exhibition. Japanese calendars are popular, especially those depicting the famous Ikebana art. the news

KARACHI: “We take the annual calendar exhibition as an opportunity to tell people that how much identity is important for nations,” said Japanese Consul General (CG) in Karachi Masaharu Sato.
He expressed these views on Friday while talking to Daily Times at the inauguration ceremony of the ‘Japanese Calendar Exhibition 2012,’ featuring above 100 calendars, at the consulate hall, held by the consulate in collaboration with the Pakistan Japan Culture Association (PJCA) and Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PJBF).
Japanese CG inaugurated the exhibition. Speaking on the occasion, he said, the calendar exhibition was an annual event of the consulate and this year it was held to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Japan. He saw the calendars as good messengers of the country that reveal several aspects of Japan, besides showing sophisticated printing technology.
He said that the exhibition was held each year to highlight and introduce the culture of Japan among Pakistanis, adding that through the exhibition people could see the Japanese culture and lifestyle. He further said that during the last six decades, Pakistan and Japan had not only developed diplomatic relations, but also a heart to heart relation of brotherhood.
Talking about the cultural exchange between both the countries, he said that Pakistan and Japan had already close relations based on culture as activities like Japanese oriented sports, particularly Karate contests and flower exhibitions are held in Pakistan and the situation was also same across the border, he added.
On the occasion, he announced that the consulate would hold ‘Japan Fest’ in collaboration with many Japan culture related organisations at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi. He said that the event would be specifically culture oriented; adding that the consulate was considering converting the fest into an annual activity and in that case economic and other sectors of both sides would also be invited to be a part of the activity.
The calendars, displayed in the exhibition, were divided into various segments: four seasons, flowers, daily life, art, cars, children, transport, pat animals, landscape and ‘Bonsali,’ a technique through which trees are grown in pots. The calendars through pictures were depicting several aspects of Japan, particularly their lush green, eye catching spots for tourists, towering buildings that show rapid economic development, their traditional dresses including ‘Kimono’ and a lot of other stuff.
Renowned intellectual figure Fatima Surayya Bajya was also present at the inauguration ceremony. She congratulated the Japanese CG for holding such a beautiful exhibition and praised calendars. She also asked for copies of each calendar. Daily times
