Pindi to host Punjab Youth Festival
RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Youth Festival will start in the city from August 25 under which competitions from union council to divisional level would be held. Nine games would be part of the festival, being organised under the special directives of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. A declamation contest, essay writing, art and craft, paintings, qiraat and naat khawani competitions will also be held amongst the students of the government colleges.
The final of these competitions would start in the first week of October at divisional level. This was told to a meeting held at the commissioner’s office on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Rawalpindi Commissioner Imdadullah Bosal and attended, among others, by DCOs of Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum and Attock, Saqib Zafar, Amjad Aziz Tarrar, Mirza Mehmudul Hassan and Shakil Ahmed, respectively, and Divisional Sports Officer Manzir Shah Farid, Director (Local Govt) Jamshed Akhter Kiani, Director (Colleges) Dr Muhammad Ashraf and district sports officers of all the districts of the division.

Divisional Sports Officer Manzir Shah Farid informed the meeting that these competitions would start in every union council of the division simultaneously and ACs and tehsil sports officers would supervise the competitions held at the tehsil level. DCOs and district sports officers would supervise the district-level competitions while the commissioner and divisional sports officer would supervise the competitions at the divisional level.
The declamation contest amongst the college students would be supervised by the director colleges. Ex-national players would be appointed as referees while expert teachers would be made judges for the declamation contest.
On this occasion, the commissioner directed that all TMAs of the division should spare two percent of their budget allocated for sports events to hold these competitions in a befitting manner and all-out efforts should be made to make these competitions successful. app
