ISLAMABAD: Young Doctors Association (YDA) of Federal Government Polyclinic on Wednesday attended patients at Out-Patients Department (OPD) after ending their strike in the hospital.
‘We have decided to call off strike after successful talks with the Secretary Health, who accepted our demands and assured to address our concerns,’ Polyclinic YDA President Dr Muhammad Ajmal said.
He said all young doctors remained on duty on Wednesday and examined the patients at the hospital. He said the young doctors had been observing complete strike in OPD and elective operation-theater from Monday to press the authorities concerned for the acceptance of their demands.
‘We were on strike as there were some flaws in the notification of health professionals career structure while the matter of regularization of contract doctors had also not been
addressed,’ Dr Ajmal said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Ministry of Health formally issued a Career Structure of Health Personnel (CSHP) notification for those serving in the government institutions and related organizations functioning under the federal government.
Under new career structure the government introduced the principle of pay for performance and its linkage with improvement in qualification by de-linking health professionals from the basic pay scale (BPS) structure.
The basic pay scales scheme (BPS 1 to 22) currently applicable to the health personnel will be replaced by the Health Personnel Pay Scales (HPS 1 to 13).
The new pay scales under CSHP will be applicable on all the health sector personnel, including doctors (medical and dental), allied specialists, pharmacists, nurses, paramedics and support services personnel, serving in the federal government institutions and related organizations.
The entry in the CSHP scheme will be optional for the existing employees, however, all fresh recruitments will be made under the CSHP scheme.
According to the notification, every health sector personnel serving under the federal government immediately before the commencement of this scheme will be required to exercise an irrevocable option either to continue in the present pay structure or to opt for CSHP, within a period of 30 days from the date of issuance of the notification.
Similarly, all personnel opting to be included in the CSHP will be governed by the said CSHP scheme, on the terms and conditions included in the notification while no health personnel, who stands transferred from BPS to HPS will be entitled to any compensation because of this transfer. app Polyclinic young doctors call off strike, attend patients
