Entrance test: Explanation sought from Punjab govt
Lahore: The Lahore High Court on Thursday sought an explanation from the Punjab government on a point as to how the permission of arrangements for holding medical entrance tests allowed it to amend rules framed by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
A division bench, comprising Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Anwar Bhaur, issued this order while hearing several identical petitions assailing the procedure of entrance test for MBBS.
Earlier, advocates Mian Abdul Qaddus, Azhar Siddique and Mian Qamaruz Zaman advanced their arguments on behalf of petitioners.
They said the PMDC was a regulatory body and had the jurisdiction to introduce rule and regulation for admission to medical colleges and the procedure of obtaining doctorate degree in Pakistan.
They said the Punjab government overlooked rules of the council and held entrance test before the announcement of FSc results.
Counsels pleaded that the result of entrance tests should be stayed because it would not provide an equal opportunity to all students across the country. They insisted that holding entrance tests in such a manner was a violation of fundamental rights as envisaged in the Constitution and also a clear-cut violation of the mandatory instructions issued by the PMDC.
They prayed that respondents be directed to act strictly according to law and follow criteria for holding entrance test as laid down by the PMDC. Dawn
