ISLAMABAD: Daily-wage employees of grades 1-16 of Islamabad Model Colleges on Tuesday started their sit-in protest in front of the National Press Club for unidentified time period. They were demanding permanent status of their jobs like JLT and lecturers of Grade 17. However, so far, they have not received a positive response, unlike, their Grade 16 and Grade 17 counterparts who got permanent. In January 2010, the Supreme Court ordered the then attorney general Abdul Qayyum to make the employees permanent, however, the order was applied only to Grade-16 and Grade-17 employees while the rest were still working on daily wages. They are forced to work for only Rs 5,000 per month. A large number of daily-wage employees participated in the sit-in. They were holding placards bearing, “Do respect the orders of the Supreme Court” and “Regularise the daily wage employees of Model Colleges.” online
