Students in distress after failure of BISE online registration
Lahore: Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education’s (BISE) online registration system has failed yet again, causing problems for the intermediate students sending their admission forms online for their annual examinations.
The intermediate students are facing problems similar to those of the matriculation students who went through the same dilemma recently.
Students complained about the “slow server speed of the BISE website, which takes several minutes just to open the form that is to be filled.” In addition, students complained about changes in the information they provided, like their names and subjects, before and after the form was downloaded. The board had given some cell phone numbers on the website for complaints but the numbers were all switched off when contacted, the students said.
The students added that upon approaching the BISE officials for help and corrections, they were charged Rs 100 per form as processing fee.
Several students belonging to the rural areas expressed their disapproval, saying that the BISE should consider the financial constraints faced by the poor students, and should “avoid try making money from them through various techniques”.
A student, Najam, belonging to Raiwand, said that it took two hours for him to reach the BISE office and then he had to spend the whole day standing in the queues there in order to get information regarding the forms. “The officials finally said that I had to pay Rs 100 as processing fee for corrections in the form,” he said. Najam appealed to the BISE officials to “end this failed system or upgrade their website servers to properly facilitate students.”
Another student, Shazia, said that being a girl it was very difficult for her to come to the board office for registration of admissions. “I applied through the online registration system of the BISE, but the names of subjects I wrote in the online form appeared altered when I opened the form after downloading it,” she explained, adding that she tried to contact the officials through the numbers given on the website but all were either “switched off or not in use”.
Controller of examinations: However, BISE’s controller of examinations, Manzoor Ul Hassan said, “The online system is new for both the staff and the students, therefore, both are facing problems while using it,” adding, “The system shows errors only when a student does not enter the correct information as per his matriculation certificate.” When asked about the switched off cell phone numbers of the officials from the complaint cell, Hassan said, “The complaint cell is always active and they had been contacted by the BISE officials several times,” adding that the problems would be solved within a few days.
