Punjab Education Foundation PEF provides education to 1.1m poor students:Punjab CHIEF Minister
CHIEF Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that free educational facilities are being provided to 1.1 million deserving students through the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
Talking to assembly members from various districts here on Tuesday, he said a new hope had been given to the poor students through a sum of Rs 10billion and now no deserving student would remain deprived of education due to poverty. He said educational projects of the Punjab government had introduced a social revolution and they would raise the living standard of the poor. Shahbaz said the Punjab government had attached special importance to the projects aimed at welfare of the masses and social uplift during last four years. He said the credit went to the present government for work in less-developed areas, especially Southern Punjab, by allocating special funds. Similarly, he said, a larger share than the quota of such areas had been given under the Daanish school system, yellow cab scheme and self-employment programme.
The CM further said that government has provided houses to low-income people through Ashiana Housing Scheme. He said contrary to the past, development funds had been diverted to the common man as the poor and resource-less people had a greater right over resources.
Meanwhile, he went to the residence of senior journalist Khawar Naeem Hashmi in Johar Town on Tuesday and congratulated him on the marriage of his daughter. Later, he went to the residence of senior journalist Iftikhar Ahmad and felicitated him on the wedding of his son.
