“A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) consisting of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Anwar Bhaur on Monday reserved judgement on a petition challenging the process of holding tests by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Nazifa Fatima, a student of FSc Medical, challenging the test process, moved the petition. The petitioner’s counsel, Azhar Siddique, submitted that in Punjab the entry tests were being held prior to the announcement of the FSc results, which resulted in prohibition of the petitioner to participate in the entry test. He said that holding entry tests in such a manner was a violation of the fundamental rights envisaged in the constitution and also in clear-cut violation of the mandatory instructions issued by the PMDC.

The counsel said that all other provinces had an eligible criteria of 60 percent marks in FSc and passing marks of 50 percent in the entry test. He said the UHS and the admission board chairman for medical/dental institutions of Punjab, without any approval from the PMDC, had adopted a 60-percent marks eligibility criteria in 2009.

He pointed out that in the same year, the respondents while going a step further and while negating the regulations of the PMDC, increased the passing marks from 40 to 60 percent.Daily times”

A division bench of the Lahore High Court consisting of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Chaudhry Shahid Saeed on Monday declared illegal the eligibility criteria of 65 percent or equivalent marks in FSc set by the Punjab government for appearance in medical entry tests and reduced it to 60 percent, as laid down by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

The bench held this while disposing of several identical writ petitions moved by Nazifa Fatima and many other students challenging the process of entry tests for MBBS. After the conclusion of arguments, the bench on August 30 had reserved the decision, which was announced on Monday.

The bench, in its short order, ruled that the PMDC was the regulatory body and all medical universities and colleges should follow its guidelines. The bench directed the Punjab government and the University of Health Sciences (UHS) to arrange special entry tests for students who had secured 60 percent or above marks in FSc exams, but they had not appeared in the entry test because the test was held prior to the announcement of the FSc result.

The bench decided that all students who had appeared in the entry test held in July were eligible to apply for admission in MBBS in all universities in line with regulations set by the PMDC. The bench declared illegal the 60 percent minimum passing marks set by UHS and ruled that there would be no passing percentage for entry tests.

last year the mbbs second list last merit was 82.7364 and dental college had 82.3273
this year the fsc result average is too good but there has been tremendous increase in number of seats (around 800) as well so i guess you have a fair chance to get admission. Pray alot n also keep other options open

i think admissions will get late this year. uhs hasnt even announced new entry test date. new test wont affect admission to govt. colleges as they are for those who scored below 65% in 1st yr. I think they should start admission process for govt colleges or atleast give merit no. Cox admission at other places have begun n students need to be out of this uncertainity

No you cannot reappear test is only for those who were left out bcoz of percentage issue

last year merit of pmc was 83.4

Hassan according to court decision that there is no passing percentage you may apply in any private college
N those who sat in july are eligible to apply. No announcement because admission process will start after new entry test maybe in october.
Prospectus of private colleges are available as for the government ones they would be single prospectus available from all medical colleges after final merit number is declared.

According to it admission process steps are
i. First an eligible candidate has to apply for Entrance Test on prescribed application form.
ii. After the Entrance Test, a merit list is prepared of all the candidates who have passed the test.
iii. The merit is worked out as under:
(a) Weightage of FSc or equivalent examination marks = 70%
(b) Weightage of Entrance Test marks = 30%
iv. According to this merit list, top 2700 candidates are eligible to apply for admissions into medical and dental colleges of the province.
v. After verification of the documents of these candidates, University of Health Sciences displays the selection list of the candidates to be admitted according to the number of seats available.

N in this year case merit list hasnt been made yet
so first you would be asked for fSc n entry test result by filling n submitting a form. After that merit list would be made n you can see your merit number at UHS site.
After this admission will start n only top 3500 ( coz total seats this year are 3200) will be able to get prospectus. They will apply n give preferences. According to these preferences first merit list of each college will be prepared n shown on UHS website n then you will have to submit the fees for confirming your admission

This year 2010 the proposed seats overall total is 3200 of which 400 will be granted to 4 new medical colleges. Lets hope these extra seats get approved by PMDC, it will surely bring merit down

400 Not confirmed PMDC objected to the new proposed medical colleges cause they were not presented for approval. Punjab Government said they will get approval for seats in new medical colleges. Lets hope for best secondly the remaining 500 seats can be made possible by increasing the number of existing seats in each college. In Karachi DOW and Sindh Medical College are allowed up to 350 MBBS students annually
