FAISALABAD Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) will hold one-day symposium on “Applications of Biotechnology in Health and Agriculture” here on March 28.

Bioinformatics and Biotechnology Department of the GCUF will sponsor the event in which veteran scholars will deliver keynote lectures about

the use of biotechnology in health and agriculture fields, a spokesman

of the GCUF told. (APP).

GCUF issues date sheet for BA/BSc, B.IT Supple exams

FAISALABAD: The Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) has issued date sheet of BA/BSc and B.IT Practical(Part-I&II) Supplementary Examinations 2011.

According to a spokesman of the university, the exams will start from Wednesday (December 14) and will remain continue by December 27, 2011.

The concerned students can download the date sheet from university website www.gcuf.edu.pk, he added. (APP)

FAISALABAD The Government College University Faisalabad on Friday declare the result of MA English part I annual examinations 2011.

Aftab Ahmad Chattha, Additional Controller Examinations of the university, said that pass percentage was 27.02 in the result. He said that result cards had been dispatched to the successful candidates at their given postal addresses.

FAISALABAD Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) has issued date sheets for Supplementary Examinations of various programs including BA, BSc, B.Com and B.IT (Part I&II) 2011.

According to a spokesman of the university, these exams will commence from Tuesday (November 15) while paper timings will fall between 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. except Friday because paper on Friday will start at 2:00 p.m.

The date sheets are available at university website www.gcuf.edu.pk.

The concerned candidates should contact the Examinations Office immediately if they found any error or clash of their subjects, he added. (APP)

Islamabad Five public sector universities have agreed to form the country’s first-ever Inter-University Consortium for promotion of social sciences, arts and humanities in order to strengthen capacities in these fields.

This was decided recently by vice chancellors of Quaid-i-Azam University, University of Gujrat, Islamia University (Bahawalpur), Institute of Management Sciences (Peshawar) and the Government College University (Faisalabad).

A formal ceremony to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this respect will soon be held. The areas of cooperation under the consortium will include faculty development, exchange of adjunct faculty members, students and publications in addition to commencement of joint research projects in which each university will work in its respective geographical area. The consortium also seeks to promote joint linkages with other national and international organisations, joint seminars, conferences and workshops in addition to other programmes of mutual interest.

The vice chancellors hoped that the step would be greatly helpful in improving the state of social sciences in the country and bring social scientists of various areas closer to one another to undertake joint programmes aiming at socio-economic development of the country, effective university community linkages and promotion of the values of peace, tolerance and active citizenship. Murtaza Noor of the Higher Education Commission would act as focal person for facilitation in the whole process.The news.

In-Service Faculty Training Program Conducted at Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (MMG), University of the Punjab
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz Arif, Dean of Administrative and Management Sciences GCU Faisalabad conducted a five-day training workshop at the Department of Microbiology and molecular Genetics, University of the Punjab, Lahore in collaboration with Higher Education Commission on October 22, 2011. The workshop focused on In-Service Training program for the young faculty at the university. Dr. Hamid Rafique Khattak was also the resource person. Its main objective included: training in communication skills, English language usage essentials, use of articles, parts of speech, how to write proposal, progress report and common errors in English grammar. It was designed basically to improve the teaching methodologies and skills of the newly inducted faculty members of the University of Punjab. LAHORE:THE Punjab government has issued a notification regarding promotions, transfers and postings of seven officers, including three Chairmen of Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education, on Wednesday.

Abdur Rauf, MD Punjab Government Servants Housing Foundation, has been promoted to BS-21. On promotion, he has been directed to continue work on the present post till further orders. Malik Mukthar Ahmed, Secretary Punjab Workers Welfare Board, has been transferred and posted as Additional Secretary Schools Education Department, while Tariq Javed, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), has been posted as Secretary Punjab Workers Welfare Board.

GCUF offers affiliation to public colleges
Faisalabad: The Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) has offered affiliation to public colleges of Faisalabad division without any charges and that their representatives will also be accommodated in the university’s council and board of studies.GCUF Vice-Chancellor Dr Zakir Husain said this at a meeting with the principals of more than 50 colleges of Faisalabad division on Thursday.

At the moment, boys college of Samanabad, Khurrianwala and Ghulam Mohammadabad and women’s college Madina Town have affiliation with the university.

Dr Husain said the GCUF was the second biggest institution after the Punjab University with enrolment of 15,000 students of 34 disciplines. He said the university ranked 19th on the list of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the position would be improved in the days to come as university administration would hire experienced faculty.

He said 50 PhD scholars had been hired by the university, of which the HEC was paying salaries to 15 teachers.

Dr Husain said four memorandums of understanding had been inked with universities of the US and the UK whose faculty members would give lecture to students.

Dr Husain said the administration had waived affiliation fee of the institutions and nominees of such institutions would also be made part of the academic council and board of studies. He said the examination record of such institutions students would also be computerised.

A special affiliation cell has been established at the institution to help government colleges. Dawn

HR dept signs MoU with eight varsities
Lahore: Punjab Human Rights and Minority Affairs department has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with eight varsities of the province to create awareness and initiate research on rights of all segments of society, including minorities. According to a handout, the minister concerned, Kamran Michael, while presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday said the department had signed the MoU with Islamia University Bahawalpur, Punjab University Lahore, International Islamic University Islamabad, Bahauddin Zakria University Multan, University of Gujrat, Government College University Faisalabad, Agriculture University Faisalabad and Fatima Jinnah Women University Lahore.

He said the activities in this regard included research studies, reviews, evaluation and assessment, seminars, workshops and lectures on rights issues. Dawn
