UoP to impart training in disaster management Peshawar: The Centre for Disaster Preparedness and Management (CDPM), University of Peshawar, will train selected students of postgraduate diploma in disaster preparedness and management.

The students will work as academic internees and also get field experience in disaster management.In this regard, the CDPM and Livelihoods Programme, Inter-cooperation Pakistan (IP), signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance their existing relationship and to work for improving local capacity through activities aimed at training and research in the field of disaster management in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Under the MoU, the IP would provide learning opportunities to students of the postgraduate diploma. CDPM director Prof. Amir Nawaz Khan and IP’s livelihoods programme team leader Shabir Hussain signed the MoU on Thursday in the presence of IP director Pierre Yves Suter and UoP vice chancellor Prof. Azmat Hayat Khan, says a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC said that since October 2005 Pakistan had been hit by several disasters and the recent floods had affected all sections of the society in the country.

Prof. Hayat said that had there been efficient disaster preparedness and management system in place the loss of life and property would have been far less.
