Bill Gates offers to bear Aarifa’s medical expenses in US

LAHORE: Microsoft Company Chairman Bill Gates has contacted parents of the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Aarifa Karim, offering to bear the expenses of her medical treatment in the US.
Talking to media persons, Amjad Karim Randhawa, father of the ailing Aarifa, said that Bill Gates contacted him personally on phone and expressed his wish to bear the expenditures of Aarifa’s treatment in the US. Gates directed the doctors in the US to adopt every measure for the successful treatment of the young girl. His doctors then contacted Aarifa’s doctors in Pakistan to gather all the details of Aarifa’s illness and current condition.
Meanwhile, Aarifa’s doctors in Pakistan are of the view that since she is on ventilator at the moment, it would be difficult to shift her to any other hospital or country. However, they are weighing different options to move her to the US.
In 2004, Aarifa grabbed the title of the youngest MCP at the age of nine. Later, she was awarded with the Fatimah Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of Science and Technology, along with Salaam Pakistan Youth Award and the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.
Aarifa, now 16 years old, suffered an epileptic attack on December 22, 2011, which affected her brain and heart causing her to slip into a coma.
Aarifa’s relatives and family members have appreciated Gates offer to bear the girl’s medical expenses. They also expressed their dissatisfaction over the ignorance of the Pakistani government towards the issue. daily times
