T
he Department of Computer Science at Karachi University on Tuesday hosted a lecture in the memory of the late Arfa Karim, who became the youngest Microsoft certified professional at the age of nine.
From now on, the lecture will be held in January every year to pay tribute to Arfa and encourage the youths. Meritorious Professor Dr SM Aqil Burney and Professor Dr Kamal Jaffery of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) delivered lectures on the latest trends in computer and information technology research.
Dr Burney said the Pakistani youth had tremendous potential to build their country if they focused on self-development. He emphasised that given some guidance and an opportunity, the younger generation could achieve any milestone and youngsters like Arfa Karim had proved that time and again.
He encouraged the youth in attendance to do their best in any field they chose to work in, following in the footsteps of Karim, who had become the nation’s pride. He said the government must take steps for the implementation of the projects that she wanted to work on. “Pakistan has indeed lost a genius in her death.”
Microsoft Innovation Centre’s Jibran Jamshed talked about the world’s top programming company’s commitment to Pakistan and its youth. He also motivated students to opt for the Microsoft certification programme and make a name for themselves.
MIT’s Kamal Jaffery talked about his latest research in the field of bio-informatics and computer science at the prestigious institute. He said it was imperative that Pakistani youth be mentored and guided to achieve its full potential. The programme was attended by a large number of students.
