To honour Arfa Karim Karachi’s IT Media City renamed after departed young genius
KARACHI - To honour Arfa Karim Randhawa, the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional who passed away at the age of 16 in Lahore on Saturday, Karachi’s Information Technology Media City has been renamed after the young genius, Sindh Information Minister Mohammad Raza Haroon announced on Sunday.
Arfa was a computer prodigy, who in 2004, at the age of nine, became the youngest Microsoft Certified Professional in the world, a title she kept until 2008.
Arfa was studying at the Lahore Grammar School`s Paragon Campus for her A Levels. She also received numerous awards and gold medals from private and government institutions for her achievement.
She received the Fatima Jinnah Gold Medal in the field of science and technology in 2005, besides the Salaam Pakistan Youth Award.
She has also received President’s Award for Pride of Performance. She was invited to Microsoft Headquarters again in November 2006 as a part of the keynote session in the Tech-Ed Developers conference held in Barcelona.
The “Arfa Karim Information Technology Media City” – a project of the Sindh Information Technology Department – is being developed over 200 acres at the Link Road between the Super Highway and the National Highway.

Marri, expressing grief over the demise of Arfa, said that the young
genius’ death is a time of immense sadness.
Extending condolences to Arfa’s family and friends, she said that children like Arfa pave a way for other children and her achievements will remain a beacon for all Pakistani children.
”Arfa has left us with so much to do and think about; her short life was filled with achievements and she has left the messages of hard-work and perseverance,” she added.
“Young Arfa was a positive girl and her mind was focused on using her potential to
prove herself and to do something for her country. She made Pakistan proud with her achievement by becoming the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional and letting the world know that Pakistani kids are no less than anyone in the world.”
Marri said she appeals to all young people of Pakistan to believe in their potential and the ability to do something for themselves and the country just like Arfa did. pakisatn today

Karachi IT Media City to be renamed after Arfa
KARACHI: Sindh Information Technology (IT) Minister Raza Haroon announced on Sunday that the IT Media City in Karachi will be renamed after the World’s Youngest Microsoft Certified Professional Arfa Karim Randhawa.
The project will now be known as Arfa Karim IT Media City.
The decision to rename the mega project was taken on the request of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain.
According to a press release issued by the MQM, the IT Media City is a world class project spread over 200 acres of land near the Super Highway.
Arfa, 16 years old, child prodigy, Microsoft professional and winner of the president’s Pride of Performance, breathed her last on January 14 at the Combined Military Hospital in Lahore.
The IT genius had an epileptic attack on December 22 and had been in a coma since, while well-wishers prayed and watched her progress closely. tribene

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Shazia Marri has expressed deepest grief over the demise of Microsoft’s youngest programmer Arfa Karim Randhawa.
Marri said that Arfa’s departure from this world had left us with immense sadness. She extended deepest condolences to her family and friends.
“Children like Arfa pave a way for other children and her achievements will remain a beacon for all Pakistani children,” Marri said.
Shazia said Arfa had left us with so much to do and think about, as her short life was filled with achievements and she had left the messages of hard-work and perseverance.
“Young Arfa was a positive girl and her mind was focused on using her potential to prove herself and to do something for her country,” she said.
She made Pakistan proud with her achievement by becoming the World’s youngest Microsoft programmer and letting the world know that Pakistani kids are not less than anyone in the world.
“I appeal to all young people of Pakistan to believe in their potential and the ability to do something for themselves and the country just like Arfa did,” an emotional Marri said.
Arfa believed in children’s abilities and stated that young minds have more potential to perform which is what our children have to also believe in and take her message forward for her short life had the greatest meaning and we must value it, Marri concluded.
Meanwhile, Sindh Information Technology Minister Mohammad Raza Haroon on the directions of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain, announced to dedicate the Information Technology Media City in Karachi to the Microsoft wonder girl Arfa Karim.
A press note issued here on Sunday said that by now and onwards the IT media city shall be referred to as Arfa Karim IT Media City Karachi.
It may be noted that the IT Media City is a project of Sindh IT Department being implemented to develop a modern and world-class media city in Karachi on 200 acres of land near Super Highway at Link Road between Super Highway and National Highway.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain has also expressed his heartfelt grief and sorrow over the death of Arfa.
He said Pakistan has lost a precocious talent in Arfa Karim and the entire nation was mourning the untimely death of the young IT expert. He sympathised with the bereaved family members and prayed for the soul of Arfa. staff report
