Designer unveils new £5.9m university building
Vibrant fashion designer and chancellor for the University of the Creative Arts (UCA) Zandra Rhodes, cut the ribbon at the Epsom campus’ new £5.9m building last week.
The Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Sheila Carlson, also attended the official opening of the new three-storey teaching facility on Wednesday, February 15.
At the unveiling, Zandra Rhodes, 71, said: “The new building will provide fantastic opportunities for our students. It is here that the designers of the future will hone their skills.”
The building, which contains a 200-seat auditorium, will provide an area for specialist creative disciplines including fashion, digital media, photography and screen printing, a learning resource centre and digital media centre.
It has achieved an ‘excellent’ rating from the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) with solar panels installed on the roof and rainwater to be used to flush the building’s toilets ensuring that at least 20 per cent of renewable energy is generated on site.
