KARACHI: Mahvash & Jahangir Siddiqui Foundation in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club (IWC), an international welfare organisation, held a programme to backup the special children.
The on-day programme, featuring an art exhibition, tableaus and other performances, was held at the JS Academy for Deaf in connection with the International Inner Wheel Day, here on Wednesday.
Art exhibition was the most eye-catching segment of the event. As many as 36 children in six groups, formed on the basis of age and educational class from Kindergarten to Intermediate level, participated in the exhibition. The exhibition was the part of art competition on the theme named ‘My dreams.’
Special children from various age groups depicted their dreams on card with watercolours.
Participants depicted their goals and dreams, and how these dreams were shattered by the harsh realities of the social and economic environment of the country. They painted their wishes regarding to their personality and the country. They showed their grievances and problems of the society, including terrorism, inflation, lack of opportunities and gender base violence.

First, second and third prizes were distributed among winning participants of each group. A panel of judges, comprising renowned artists, Jemmi Engineer, Nelopher, Naheed and Ameen Gulgee, decided the positions. Speaking on the occasion, they hailed the enthusiasm and spirit of participants and urged them to focus on their education so as to become a valuable part of the society.
They also praised the efforts of the academy and the donors like the IWC. Judges were of the view that the exhibition had proved that Pakistan is enriched with talent and have a significant position among global community regarding to talented youth.
Later, talking to Daily Times, IWC district chairperson Fouzia Zubairi said that the club is an international organisation, established in 1924 and was introduced in Pakistan in 1962 and works for the betterment of the society, particularly in health and education sectors. She further said that Jan 10 is celebrated across the world as Inner Wheel Club Day, however, this year the day was observed on Wednesday in the country.
JS Academy chairperson Laila Doosa thanked all the participants and particularly the club for their cooperation. She said that deaf children are less than none, so they should be provided with their due position in the society. She said that education is their basic right and hoped that the children would promote the name of the country among global community.
She said that they were struggling to spread awareness among society about the deafness and sign language. She demanded of the government to fulfill its promise of providing special people with two percent job quota and urged the corporate sector to come forward and support special people by providing them jobs.
