The shortest of short stories could land a boys’ school £1,000 after they entered a national creative writing competition.
Twenty-six year 7 and 8 students from Southborough High have been selected as winners for their mini saga stories based on epic journeys.
Over 150 Southborough students took part in the Young Writers competition that required entrants to produce precise 50-word stories.
The top three schools with the best mini sagas will be given cash prizes.
English teacher Morgan Melhuish said: “It’s quite skilful to create a story in just 50 words. The challenge of this has always appealed to the English department, so we have regularly taken part.
“I am so proud of the achievements of the students who took part. It’s fantastic for them to be published.”
A book of all the winning mini sagas will be published in April.
